A research report issued jointly by BoardAgender and the Human Capital Leadership Institute, 20 by 2020: Gender Diversity on Singapore Boards, showed that the proportion of female directors on boards listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) crossed double digits for the first time to 10.3 per cent as at June 2017. This is good news.

The same report detailed six specific advantages in having a gender-diverse board. These include heightened investor confidence, stronger corporate governance and greater social impact. To ensure we reach the target of 20 per cent female directors in listed companies by 2020, multiple organisations need to be proactively engaged to share the benefits of having a gender-diverse board. Examples of such organisations include the trade associations, the Singapore National Employers Federation, the Singapore Institute of Directors and the Association of Listed Companies.
