THIS WEEK’S TOPIC: Two predictions for 2020 (in business/industry or global affairs):

– one that you wish to see fulfilled

– the other that you hope will not materialise

One prediction I hope to see happen in 2020 is the successful rollout of 5G technology all over the world. With speeds of over one gigabit per second, the usage of 5G could even eventually help cars drive themselves. In the US, telcos like AT&T and Verizon have said they expect their 5G networks to be accessible nationwide this year. Not to be outdone, wireless chipmaker Qualcomm announced at the CES 2020 trade show in Las Vegas that it is providing the processor for the world’s first 5G wireless-enabled personal computer, Lenovo’s Yoga 5G.

Even multi-billion dollar tech firms like Microsoft and Apple might offer 5G as an option this year as well.

One prediction I hope will not materialise is any ratcheting up of tensions in the Middle East, especially between United States and Iran.
