THIS WEEK’S TOPIC: Will corporate social responsibility (CSR) take a back seat during a downturn? How might your organisation’s corporate giving be affected this year?

With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting businesses worldwide and roiling financial markets, it would be no surprise if CSR takes a dip during this downturn as businesses fight to survive.

That said, it is equally important for business owners and collective stakeholders to understand that for a company’s long-term sustainability, proactive engagement with the community cannot be ignored.

Over at our firm, it is our priority first and foremost to ensure that no staff gets laid off just because of Covid-19. We also have a CSR arm called Fullerton Foundation where we support meaningful initiatives with our beneficiaries that include marginalised children and the elderly. So far this year, the Foundation has donated food and essential supplies to homes in Malaysia and Philippines, and will be doing more in other ASEAN countries this year. We don’t see our CSR efforts diminishing because of Covid-19. We must all come together during this difficult time. No help is too small for those who need it the most.
