THIS WEEK’S TOPIC: Who do you expect will be sworn in as US president on Jan 20, 2021: Donald Trump or Joe Biden? Why?

Joe Biden is leading Donald Trump in the national polls with an eight to 10 point lead in some cases.

However, with the US voting system based on the electoral college instead of the popular vote, a candidate can potentially win the popular vote and still lose the presidency. This happened to Hillary Clinton in the 2016 elections.

The winner this round would be the one who can seal electoral votes from about seven swing states. These states include Florida, Texas, Ohio and Iowa. Mr Trump would also continue his narrative of being the right choice to rebuild the economy and make America great again, while Joe Biden would focus on tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Key voters for Mr Trump would be white men over the age of 50 and non-college graduates, while Mr Biden’s main supporters would be women and the African-American community. When the dust settles, I think Mr Trump will pip Mr Biden to the finish line and serve another four years.
