The world of business has changed quite a lot in the past two years. New trends and methods have come about in response to the pandemic and post-pandemic planning, as many firms and organisations continue to reach solid grounds. Adjusting to these changes is a challenge that leaders must overcome for their companies to remain viable in the long term.
I’ve seen a lot of new strategies and methods that have been discussed, iterations of old ideas and reinventions of standards that have been taken for granted. The old ways won’t be enough anymore. There are new interests among employees, new priorities that don’t end at the size of their salaries. A true leader shouldn’t end all concern with whether the employee is getting paid enough.
Here are five new trends based on the widespread concerns that have developed over the pandemic, and how leaders can adapt them into their business strategy:
1) Positive Work Culture
The workplace is where people spend a lot of time, almost 40 hours a week, sometimes more. It’s a large part of their lives. Even if work is a necessity, that doesn’t mean that people must work somewhere uncomfortable or mentally harmful.
Everyone deserves a better work environment, but not every workplace can be decorated or be painted in bright colours. There is a bigger aspect to creating a positive workplace through culture. An inherent learnt and acted upon culture formed through beliefs, behaviours and ideal goals everyone strives for is something that every workplace deserves.
Enforcing a positive work culture centred around the best aspects of your business will help it grow and keep it stable. It can become a place where people will want to be.
2) Inclusivity and Equity
Adding on to a positive work culture, providing a place where your employees want to be is good, but who are your employees? When you try to reach out for employee feedback or input, are you getting the best results from the responders on hand? Or is there a group not being represented?
Inclusivity has been a huge buzzword in many industries. Keeping all doors open to full representation brings in new voices and enforcing equity to give them equal speaking time and volume to others allows them to feel important and be heard.
3) Long-term Development
Getting employees is one thing. Sign on and new hire benefits can go a long way to pulling in fresh, new talents, especially with the constant presence of an ever-increasing out-of-work population.
But how do you keep them around? The objective of employment shouldn’t just be keeping someone at work on the daily grind. People want careers where they can improve their skills, education and stand for their future.
Offer coaching, mentorships and progressive professional encouragement to turn your employees into future leaders.
4) Technological Focus
Our technology is rapidly improving. Automation is the next step in controlled labour, where robots and artificial intelligence replace traditionally human-held jobs. It’s already happening, and many industries are embracing either an automated or blended workforce between people and appliances.
Every business needs to work on its technology, it’s one of the most lacking areas that even established legacy corporations don’t prioritise. Investing in a solid infrastructure will set a foundation for the strong upper management of software, systems and databases that can streamline workflow for everyone.
Add in lasting technology education so that everyone is a computer expert, and you’ll have an unhackable company structure.
5) Embrace Employee Empowerment
The lifeblood of any company isn’t money, it’s the people who make money come in. Employees are an undervalued resource for many companies. They get taken advantage of, ignored, overworked, which can lead to major health issues, stress and even death.
Any business should want a stronger set of employees that want the business to succeed because it means they will succeed. Don’t take your employees for granted. One day, they could be leaders themselves.
To your success,
