With the COVID-19 pandemic growing, seemingly without an end in sight, it’s a very tough time for many employees across the world. Unfortunately, not all businesses have had employee-centric measures in place, and many employees are experiencing heartbreaking layoffs from their jobs.

If you’re one of these people, then right off the bat, I’m deeply sorry for your loss. It’s not easy to pick yourself back up once you lose your source of income and livelihood. I can only imagine how defeated you must feel right now. However, do know that there is hope, including in something you’re probably already using – social media.

That’s right, social media, when used right, can be such a great tool for making money. Some people have built their wealth from just being digital nomads or starting online businesses, both of which are careers that are definitely boosted by social media.

Now, I’m not saying this life has to be for you, but learning a few tricks to using social media can definitely help you get back on your feet, find purpose, and supplement your cash flow while we all wait for the coronavirus scare to be over. Here are a few ways for you to make money on social media to keep you liquid despite the physical distancing:

1. Freelance, Freelance, Freelance!

One great thing about social media nowadays is that there are so many opportunities to boost your income. Marketplace platforms like Fiverr and Upwork allow you to find different kinds of freelance work. Like most apps, these allow you to link your social and expand your network even further. When you get on these platforms, you’re also making your skills and brands known, thereby increasing your opportunities for freelance commissions even more.

Use this time to get on social media and figure out how you can utilise and monetise your skills. If you don’t have any skills that you’re confident about advertising, you can use social media to learn new ones. There are so many YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook tutorials for different kinds of skills. For example, have you ever wanted to code? Well now you can, and now you can sell it too.

The physical world is somewhat on pause right now, which makes this the perfect time to get online, and start doing some freelance work. This is one surefire way to keep your finances afloat.

2. Start That Passion Project You’ve Always Wanted to Do

Things might seem bleak right now with everything going on, but if you still have access to a phone and social media, you can start that passion project you’ve always dreamed about. Stuck at home? This only means you have more time to work on that activity you probably shelved months ago.

Perhaps you’ve always wanted to launch a YouTube channel, or write a book, or sell crafts you have at home. Some people have even started online fitness consultancies for others who want to stay healthy despite being under lockdown. These kinds of things, and many more, are just new opportunities for you to consider while you wait for that next paycheck. It might take a little more time and resources, but there are few better opportunities than now if you really want to bring those dreams to life.

Use social media to further your passion project. That YouTube channel idea? Just hit record and start tweeting about it everywhere. Your crafts business? Start posting it on Instagram. This extra exposure might take a little more time, but if you start small and consistently keep at it, you could just make even more money than you expected.

3. Connect with a Ready Audience

If you’ve considered these things, and still don’t know where to start, maybe the answer lies in the people around you. This is where social media definitely comes in handy. Nowadays you see all kinds of people doing all kinds of things. Influencers, for example, can make quick money by tapping on their follower base and niche audience.

If you have a phone camera and an internet connection, you’re just one click of courage away from connecting to a larger world of people who might want your stuff or simply want to learn from you. Perhaps you’ve heard of the lady who raised over a million dollars for the Australian wildfires, just by selling pictures of herself? Regardless of how you feel about it, that was an impressive feat that wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for social media and asking an already engaged audience directly what they want.

This is why you need to trust yourself and your personality. Look to connect meaningfully with your followers or online network, be genuine in your interactions, and you’ll discover that there are going to be more and more ways for you to make money. All you have to do is reach out and ask.

I hope this article has enlightened you a bit, and I pray that you stay safe and keep yourself healthy and productive while we ride out this pandemic.

To your success,

Mario
